I dont know what the negative reviews are talking about, this app is awesome. Ive used it on ice and my outdoor training area at home. High quality, shows a lot of information. Fun to use. Definitely a great training tool as well. My ice hockey coach has a high tech hand held police grade radar gun for clocking in our shot speeds so we decided to put this app to the test and it didnt fail. If it wasnt exactly the same reading then it was within a tenth of a mph. Didnt expect an iPhone app to work so well. Highly recommended! For fun and for ice hockey training.

Ive used this app many times with my 11yo select player. If you set it up exactly how the directions tell you to, you will see how great and accurate the app works. Its also a great motivator. When my son doesnt want to work bullpen, I tell him ill set up the radar and we can see if he can beat his fastest throw. That usually gets him off the couch. Its also great because I can see his fastball progress (he can hit 60 regularly) but when working on his change up, its good to have a quantifiable tool to show him how much slower his change should be from his fastball. We aim for 45 mph and ensure mechanics are the same as the fastball. Without this app, it would be a lot of guessing about what it working and what isnt. Highly recommend the full app.

I saw an article on this app written up by Inc. Magazine and just had to try it out. I had a little pitching contest with my nieces and nephews while they were in town for a visit. To my surprise my 16 year old niece was able to pitch almost as fast as me! (her marathon running, gold metal athlete uncle) I definitely recommend downloading this app. It was easy to use and a lot of fun for my family. Who knows, maybe youll find some hidden talent in yours…! I can only imagine that users with negative reviews either didnt watch the setup tutorials or are trying to use the app in environments with too much background movement because it works great for me!

This has been an excellent tool for improving my tennis serve--I highly recommend it for anyone looking to measure their performance.

Works just like a $1200 gun. They also have a great partnership with one of the best trainers in MLB. Pitchharder. Video analysis offered through this app is spot on.

It took some getting used to, but once the distance and angle were figured out it worked like a charm. Little expensive, but cheaper than a radar gun.

This app works really well but it needs to include a setting for hockey. I will certainly buy the full version when hockey comes out!

I suspect the actual maximum detectable speed on a 5s is about 70 mph. I placed it exactly in the best recommended spot with no movement in the background and it only detected 4 slow second serves between 65-69mph. It didnt pick up any of the many faster serves and even some slower experimental serves. I would say detection rate is about 10% and I have no way to test accuracy as I have no reference radar to compare to but it seems strange all detected balls were within 5mph range. Ill have to play with it some more try placing the phone higher maybe and closer or farther from the trajectory of the ball but for now I can only give it 2 stars in the hopes that it will develop into something useful.

Used this app playing @ Balboa Tennis club. Always wondered my serve speed. 80mph. Fun way to compare your serve speed with friends.

It was picking up my serves in the low 100’s with no problems. I was looking for a way to work on my tennis serve and this app picks up about 85%-90% of my serves. I was using an iPad 4 on a stand placed at the intersection service line and the sideline. Personally I found this works best with the iPad at about a 15-20% angle and if you don’t serve it too wide… Give this app a shot and you will NOT be disappointed. Great job Athla!

This is not an app. Its a full blown multi-sport speed detection / radar system. It works flawlessly. I would have gladly payed $50 for it.

If you are attempting to use this for baseball, absolutely do not buy!! Tried using app at every angle and always read 15-20 mph slow...often did not even read the speed. I used this app on high school pitcher pitching a bullpen and it always read from 54-59 mph... Trust me they do not throw 54-59mph. Waste of money and time

I got the app to check the difference between my fastball & off-speed pitches. Had some initial problems getting it to work without internet access, but Mike Gillam worked with me to get it sorted out. Great customer service! Took my IPad out to the local field to test it out. Warmed up at 39-45 mph and worked up to 77-79 mph. Not too shabby for a 61 yr. old grandpa. Off-speed pitches were 59-66. The app helped me find the best arm slot for this old body. Pitched a 4-hit shutout in my next senior league game. Thanx Mike & the team at Athla!

This is a bogus title to the app,one should not title an app "velocity free" when you read a paragraph and then they ask for money in Order to actually use it. If I could rate this no star I would.

Does a good job of keeping track of our pitches and charting them out. Love that you can see each if the pitches in a graph and see how long you worked. Great support when the app wasnt showing good results. Continued follow up until the problem was correct!

I took the app to my kids tennis match. When I put my iPad on the ground on a nearby court where kids were practicing and it started showing the serve speeds, everyone was interested and we all thought it was cool and useful. I tried the GameLink too - very clever feature! Awesome app!!!

This app is a great find for those looking to improve their game. Very well designed and easy to use. Once set up, I didnt want to leave the court so that I could try to beat my highest score *one last time*. Game on, Velocity... Game on!
